Practice: Node set up *

Description

Conception: Just wanted to try something simple with node set ups by borrowing from one node to use in another.

Method: Load up model library in Blender, choose Christie model and select the hair mesh, duplicate. Change the node set up of the duplicate hair mesh.

Commentary: Even knowing the various texture maps (where I tend to equivocate between 'texture' and 'diffuse' quite often) I've always wondered about the application of the other maps. The first basic node set up which got me started only explicitly used the diffuse map. Later node set ups would also use the specular and normal/bump maps. As I understand it, the specular map controls the shine of the texture and the bump map controls the illusion of depth.

Well... this one just adds the bump map in and... er... I don't see much of a difference. I need to refer to more tutorials to understand this stuff...
