Description

Conception: Experimenting with cloth physics in Blender as I pursue more accurate physics for the things I do in XNALara with dresses.

Method: Import model into Blender, create a plane and reposition above the model, apply settings from guides, render animation to watch hilarity ensue, use Snipping Tool to grab picture, write waffle, submit.

Commentary: This is what sidetracked me during the Rachel photoshoot complications of the fourth/fifth picture. I was deeply dissatisfied with my ability to rotate and move the dress to create a more natural look and sought a way of trying to do it more accurately. This would lead me to searching for tutorials and I found my way to a few which point towards how to do this. My starting point was a guide by carbint. I'm now getting the hang of doing this without having to refer to the guide as I familiarise myself with Blender. Limited, but the things I want to learn are coming along.

So for a laugh I decided to import a Sarah Bryant model into Blender and drop a cloth on top of her. I'm not sure if she can breathe under that but at least she gets to keep her clothes on. Poor Rachel, because it comes back to her dress, lost her clothing during this process... But for those of you (yes, you) who have followed my exploits, you can see what the implication of this to be - more accurately modeled dresses by bypassing XNALara's system of move and rotation and applying a physics engine to the process. I'm not very successful at that particular point yet as something keeps going wrong. I think I know what I have to do from other tutorials but it may be very fiddly...
