Introducing Gen Fu (Cos005)

Published:

Description

Conception: "Boo!" "It's an abomination!" "Bring back the nekkid ladies!" "We don't want no old fogeys!" "No sausages!" Shrug

Method:
XPS: Load model, pose away. Save pose. Open Material editor.
Blender: Import model. Smooth meshes and remove doubles from them. Apply relevant node set up to mesh, and use Material editor to match textures to the node set up. Repeat. Copy model to backdrop layer. Import pose. Adjust background colour; camera, lighting rig and render parameters. Check for inconsistencies. Disable identifiable backface textures. Render when satisfied.

Commentary: Always had something in mind with Gen Fu, so this is the start of the set up work to use him eventually in a proper scene (still to track down the other elements though). Notice that all I ever seem to do is set up things to use later... Actually, it took quite a while to find a Gen Fu model to use; and one with the sort of costumes I wanted to use as well. Thank goodness for UndeadMentor's work here, otherwise this wouldn't be possible. Though that is true for any model I use...

I'm starting to realise that pose packs are typically pin up focused, so it would seem with male models I would have to be more creative as a result. That would mean actually having to do the posing myself. Goodness me. So here's my attempt to do a wise old man sort of pose. That beard stroking is essential as far as I'm concerned; not entirely sure if this works. Probably need an excuse to watch a few old TV series where grandmasters of a particular martial art sect stand around stroking their beards when conveying wisdom... An easy piece as I await to see a GP about current ongoing health issues. I need the easy stuff to do. Perhaps I should just go through my downloaded pose packs and apply them to a character in my model library. That would save me the trouble... One thing I have realised, because I'm as thick as two short planks on these things, is disabling the backface culling option in XPS to see where potential issues could arise in Blender. From here I could see the front of the skirt was an issue and some hair textures. The hair textures were more difficult to identify in Blender though, I did check all hair meshes and found one which could cause an issue, but not the other one I saw in XPS. I don't see an issue in the render though... I suppose this is obvious, but I've spotted that the Introducing series, even when using 4096 samples, still allows for reasonable render times. But close ups really hammer them due to details. Hm...

I've always found Gen Fu a peculiar fighter and not the easiest to use. Never really got to grips with him. Short combos which require a bit more nuance than my button mashing can chain together to something more substantial.

Gen Fu: So why am I here, young man?
Er... Eliot and Brad need discipline.
Gen Fu: I see...
