Christie: Mmm... *

Description

Conception: Wanted to use my favourite nude Christie model for something.

Method: Load setting (and model to be used) in XPS, adjusted the scale of the setting to a more realistic size, export the setting as an .obj file. Load base Blender file containing basic elements, import the setting's .obj file, move Christie model to approximate location in room, apply pose to Christie model, make adjustments to pose, tinker with rendering settings, render, share.

Commentary: Right, I suppose this requires a bit more explanation.

Base Blender file: This is a Blender file which contains at the node settings I have come across from other users, a simple backdrop, and a model where I have performed all the usual necessary steps of removing doubles, smoothing meshes and setting up nodes. I set up this Christie model some time beforehand - you'll have seen her in other experimental renders I've submitted.

Having loaded this base Blender file, I imported the setting's .obj file and went through the motions of setting up for rendering (removing doubles, setting up nodes, applying textures). This is now saved as a new base Blender file because I don't fancy having to set it up every time I want to use this setting (it's just too much work). Unlike the Nap (1st)'s hospital room setting, this bedroom is fully set up with no cheating or laziness. It still meant setting up 156 meshes... mind you, I skipped smoothing the meshes for this but it still seems okay.

The pose importing directly to Blender is something I've been doing because I have this base Blender file. It would make no sense (for me) to export the scene in XPS as an .obj to then set up the render. It's easier to have the base file to be reused and then make minor changes like the posing in Blender itself. And that is what I did here. Blender does handle pose files a bit differently from XPS it seems. Perhaps it's one of these model specific things, or coordinate orientation things, I don't know but Christie's right index finger was poking through her bottom lip. I'm sure that's a completely different genre to the usual... Some adjustments had to be made to get this one where she seems to be running her finger along her bottom lip. Mmm... What? Oh... *Ahem*

Again, there's the minor imperfection of the slight streakiness in the hair. But you (yes, you) have to look for it to see it. Quite pleased with how she looks here (she's pretty!) and I now have a fully set up setting in Blender to be reused (rather than having a plain backdrop). How applicable the setting is for future submissions is another matter.

Rendered at 3840 x 2160 (4K) resolution. Takes a while for my set up. Ran out of RAM quite a few times which led to Blender crashing to desktop (a frequent occurrence lately) - "8GB of RAM is fine for gaming" they said; shame it's not for rendering. Not sure why I bothered at 4K rather than the usual HD resolution, because I can't really see the difference...

P.S. After much time I did notice a flaw in this piece, so I effectively downgraded this from a normal render into scraps. There are minor patches of black near Christie's right eye which I can't quite manage to figure out. At first I thought it was something to do with backface culling (an option which also exists in Blender I discovered), but that didn't do much to rectify the patches. *Sigh*
